Abstract:
Concentrations of circulating T4, T3, TSH, and rT3, together with body weight and diagnostic index of thyrotoxicosis were measured in 10 patients with hyperthyroidism treated with propranolol alone. Following treatment circulating T3 fell, rT3 and TSH increased, while T4 remained unchanged. It was suggested that the_main mechanism of these changes mentioned should result from the inhibitory action of the drug on peripheral conversion of T4 to T3.
