Abstract:
Apoprotein CI, CII, CIII levels were measured in 23 non-insulin-dependent diabetic Chinese patients (13males, 10fe-males) and in 18 non-diabetic controls (8 males, 10 females). Significant differences were observed between male diabetics and controls in respect to plasma Apo CI, Apo CI/TG, Apo CII/TG, and Apo CI/CIII ratios; male diabetics had lower values. Apo CII was significantly higher in female diabetics than in controls. The median value of fasting blood glucose (FBG) was 140 mg/dl in male diabetics, approximate to 137 mg/dl found in female diabetics. The results suggested that the abnormal composition of Apo CI, CII, CIII in plasma and VLDL maybe an additional contributing factor to the increased VLDL levels in Chinese male diabetics, not the hypergiycemic state per se.
