Abstract:
This paper reports 15 cases of digestive tract carcinoid tumors treated by surgery during the period 1956 to 1983. Among them, 6 were rectal carcinoid(40%), 5 stomach carcinoid (33.3%), 4 appendix carcinoid, transverse colon carcinoid, pancreatic carcinoid and gallbladder carcinoid respectively. The characteristic features of the clinical manifestation largely depend upon the location of the tumors. The method of operation depends mainly upon the size and location, the degree of infiltration and the presence of the metastasis of lymph nodes. Patients with carcinoid syndrome, in addition to the excision of the primary focus and metastatic focus, should receive chemotherapy and anti-5-HT drugs.
