Abstract:
125I-insulin binding to RBC and serum insulin and glucose levels during OGTT in patients with hepatic cirrhosis (N = 38) were compared with that in normal controls (N=14) and type Ⅱ diabetes mellitus (N=9) as well.Impaired glucose tolerance and hyperinsulin were found in cirrhotics. 125I-insulin binding to RBC was significantly lower in both cirrhotics and diabeties than that in controls. Scatchard analysis suggested that this reduced binding was secondary to a decrease in the receptor number per cell rather than affinity alteration. The number of receptors on each RBC was not correlated to the results of OGTT measured, but a negative correlation was noted between the receptor number and fasting insulin levels in both cirrhotics and controls (r=-0.61 and r= -0.87 respectively, P
