Abstract:
Objective To evaluate the reliability and validity of the Chinese version of Temperament and Character Inventory(self?report ver?sion,PsTCI)in preschool children. Methods A total of 736 subjects were selected from seven kindergartens in the urban area of Shenyang by convenient sampling method. All the subjects completed PSTCI and Parent Temperament Questionnaire(PTQ). After one month, one kindergar?ten was randomly selected to retest the PsTCI,so as to test the reliability. Descriptive statistics, independent t tests, internal consistency analysis and Pearson correlation analysis were carried out to examine the reliability and validity. Results The PsTCI has 82 items, including four sub?scales of the temperament[novelty seeking(NS),harm avoidance(HA),reward dependence(RD),persistence(PS)]and three subscales of the character[self?directedness(SD),cooperativeness(CO),self?transcendence(ST)]. Each items of the CR values were 3.21 to 26.83,the Cronbach’sαof the internal consistency reliability were 0.56 to 0.78,and the Test?retest correlations ranged from 0.42 to 0.75 for the seven scales (P<0.01). The scales internal relation analysis showed that the correlation coefficients among seven factors ranged from-0.45 to 0.56(P<0.01). Correlation between the subscales of PTQ was significantly positivly correlated with all the temperament dimensions of the PsTCI:NS and activity level, intensity of reaction(r=0.35,0.38,P<0.01),HA and approach and withdrawal,adaptability(r=-0.63,-0.38,P<0.01),RD and activi?ty level, intensity of reaction(r=0.30,0.39,P<0.01),PS and persistence(r=0.35,P<0.01). Conclusion Chinese version of PsTCI shows good reliability and validity, which can be used to evaluate the temperament character of preschool children.
