Abstract:
1)A program in which musculoskeletal examination is taught by patient–instructors with rheumatoid arthritis (RA) was introduced at the Institute of Rheumatology, Tokyo Women's Medical University, in 2001. All the medical students considered the lecture by patient–instructors to be easily understandable.
2)In a survey at the end of their clinical rotation, the medical students expressed their satisfaction with this program and indicated that it was useful for sympathizing with patients' feelings and for encouraging their motivation to study.
3)Students wished to have more programs involving teaching by patients in other specialty fields. This program, in which patient–instructors teach medical skills to medical students, appears to be extremely useful.
