Abstract:
On the basis of reviewing the academic history of authentication of ancient traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) classics, this paper systematically expounds the theoretical foundations of bibliography in authentication. It discusses six specific approaches and their practical applications, including examining the bibliographic records in successive dynastic catalogues to verify the chronological sequence of transmission, comparing differences in bibliographic classification to discern authenticity, investigating author information to identify pseudepigraphic forgeries, comprehensively applying various bibliographies to identify the titles and editions of volumes and chapters, examining block-print dating information to detect fraudulent publication imprints, and verifying traces of collection and circulation to identify forged seals, colophons, and inscriptions. Finally, the paper explores the contemporary value and future directions of bibliographic authentication, which are of significant theoretical and practical importance for promoting the modern transformation of bibliographic authentication methodology and for advancing research on the authentication of ancient TCM texts.
