Abstract:
Tuberculosis(TB) remains one of the significant global public health issues and poses major challenges for infectious disease prevention and control in China. The existing Bacillus Calmette-Guérin(BCG) only offers protection for infants and young children for 10 to 15 years, with limited protective efficacy in adolescents and adults. Furthermore, there is a lack of TB vaccines specifically tailored for adolescent and adult populations on the market. Currently, most TB vaccine candidates have shown unsatisfactory results in clinical trials. The success of mRNA SARS-CoV-2 and respiratory syncytial virus(RSV) vaccines has provided a new strategy for the development of novel TB vaccines. This paper summarizes the current research status and challenges related to TB mRNA vaccines, aiming to offer new insights and reference for the development of TB mRNA vaccines.
