Abstract:
Mosquito-borne diseases pose a major threat to global public health. The gut microbiota colonizing the mosquito intestinal tract plays a critical role in regulating pathogen infection, replication, and transmission. This review summarizes the effects of mosquito gut microbiota on the transmission potential of mosquito-borne pathogens, explores the interaction mechanisms between gut microbial communities and pathogens, and discusses the potential of microbiome-based strategies to reduce mosquito-borne disease transmission.
