Abstract:
Against the backdrop of the in-depth advancement of the “Healthy China” initiative and the new medical science construction, medical education in China is transforming from technical training to a “holistic education” that emphasizes both virtue and competence. The “Two Integrations” as a major theoretical innovation in contemporary Chinese Marxism, provides theoretical guidance for medical education to construct a medical ethics education system with both red genes and traditional cultural foundation. Red doctor spirit originates from revolutionary healthcare practice and reflects the people-oriented, practical, and political nature of red doctor, representing a vivid embodiment of the “first integration” in the medical field. “Master physicians with superb skills and sincerity” grounded in traditional medical culture, encapsulate the ethical norms of ancient Chinese physicians and constitute an important cultural resource for advancing the “second integration”. By analyzing the relationship between these two approaches regarding alignment of value goals, complementarity of ethical cores, and consistency of practical orientation, this paper systematically elucidated their common characteristics and integration mechanisms. On this basis, educational programs concerning curriculum, faculty, and practice were proposed. This aimed to provide theoretical support and practical paths for improving the Chinese-characterized medical virtue education system, as well as cultivating politically firm, morally sound, and technically proficient medical talents in the new era.
