Abstract:
ObjectiveTo analyze the correlation between the Zhejiang University (ZJU) index and the risk of Diabetic Peripheral Neuropathy (DPN) in type 2 diabetes (T2DM) patients, as well as its predictive value. Methods253 patients with T2DM were collected, including 123 cases in the DPN group and 130 cases in the non-DPN group. The ZJU index was calculated using the formula from previous studies. Spearman correlation analysis was used to assess the correlation between the ZJU index and each nerve conduction velocity. Multivariate Logistic regression analysis was used to explore its association with DPN, and receiver operating characteristic (ROC) curve analysis was used to evaluate its predictive value for DPN. ResultsCompared to the non-DPN group, DPN patients exhibited significantly higher ZJU index, fasting plasma glucose (FPG), and HbA1c levels (all P<0.05). Univariate Logistic regression analysis showed that the ZJU index was positively associated with DPN risk (OR=1.089, P=0.001). In multivariable regression models, patients in higher ZJU index quartiles maintained a significantly higher risk of DPN compared to those in the lowest quartile (P<0.05). Subgroup analyses indicated that the association between the ZJU index and DPN was more pronounced in females, overweight individuals, and those with elevated HbA1c levels (all P<0.05). ROC curve analysis demonstrated that the ZJU index possessed a reliable predictive value for DPN (AUC=0.618). ConclusionThe ZJU index is independently associated with the risk of DPN in T2DM patients, with a stronger correlation observed specifically in the female population. As a simple and comprehensive metabolic indicator, the ZJU index can provide a novel clinical tool for the early identification and risk assessment of DPN.
