Abstract:
INTRODUCTION. Many genitourinary abnormalities are now being detected early by fetal sonography and many appear asymptomatic. Newborn babies delivered to oligohydramnios pregnancies are subjected to renal sonography to detect for any renal abnormalities. Sonographic measurements of the kidneys of oligohydramnios babies were done and were compared to a published standard normal values for Filipino newborns.
OBJECTIVES. To determine the sonographic measurements of the kidneys of oligohydramnios newborn babies born at a local government hospital.
METHODS. A cross sectional study was done on all newborn babies delivered to oligohydramnios mothers from the period of January 2004 to December 2006 at Quezon City General Hospital. There was a total of 28 subjects, all delivered to mothers with oligohydramnios pregnancies. Sonographic measurements of the kidneys of subjects were done, which include renal length, renal width, cortical thickness, and AP diameter. Statistical analysis using T-test and ANOVA was used to interpret the results.
RESULTS. By comparing the kidney measurements of oligohydramnios newborns with the standard normal value using T-test, it was noted that the left kidneys are significantly below the standard normal length (p
