Objectives. 1.) To demonstrate the clinical features of subjects using the 5 clinical parameters of the Laboratory and clinical Assessment of Morbidity risk in Kids (LAMOK) scoring system; and 2.) To correlate LAMOK scoring system and prognosis of dengue patients in terms of number of days of hospital stay and in terms of mortality rate. Design. Cross-sectional study. Setting. Quezon City General Hospital, a local government hospital. Participants. All pediatric patients admitted at the emergency room who had a clinical diagnosis of dengue hemorrhagic fever (DHF) based on the WHO criteria. Methods. All subjects were assessed upon admission according to LAMOK scoring system, and were monitored until the day of discharge. Results. There were 5 parameters used in the LAMOK scoring system. These are sex, platelet count, gastrointestinal bleeding, pleural effusion and pulses. Based on LAMOK scores, severe classification was higher among female despite higher incidence in males. Most subjects had platelet count of >90,000, no gastrointestinal bleeding, no pleural effusion and had good pulses. Most of them stayed in the hospital for 3-5days. Of the 208 subjects, 9 died. Five of them under LAMOK severe classification. Comparing both the mean hospital stay and the mortality rate of subjects according to the LAMOK scoring system, it showed that there was no significant difference noted. Conclusion. Based from the proportion of mortality to the total number of subjects, LAMOK scoring system cannot be correlated with prognosis of patients with DHF both in terms of hospital stay and mortality rate.
