Abstract:
Interleukin-6(IL-6) is a typical pleiotropic cytokine with a wide range of biological activities in acute host immune defense and acute stress response.Meanwhile, IL-6 produced by skeletal muscle cells, as a muscle cytokine, can also be involved in glucose and lipid metabolism of the body and skeletal muscle during exercise, in addition to regulating immune functions and inhibiting inflammatory responses, but the related studies have been underestimated and neglected. Therefore, this paper outlines the discovery of myogenic IL-6 and its signaling pathway, introduces the recent progress of the biological function of myogenic IL-6, and focuses on the regulatory mechanism of myogenic IL-6 on glucose and lipid metabolism of body and skeletal muscle, with a view to providing new insights and theoretical references for the further study of myogenic IL-6.
