Abstract:
High altitude cerebral edema(HACE) is a serious and life-threatening high altitude disease, which brings significant health risks to patients and may even be life-threatening in severe cases. Its main feature is brain edema caused by acute high altitude exposure, which leads to symptoms such as confusion and ataxia, and can be fatal within 12 hours. In recent years, human umbilical cord mesenchymal stem cells(hUC-MSCs) have gradually become a research hotspot in the treatment of HACE due to their unique biological characteristics and multi-directional differentiation ability. The hUC-MSCs have a variety of mechanisms, including anti-inflammatory, neuroprotection, promoting angiogenesis and immune regulation. These mechanisms have shown good potential in alleviating the symptoms of HACE and improving the prognosis of patients, such as reducing the water content in mouse brain tissue under low pressure and hypoxic conditions obviously and significantly reversing the decrease in the number and density of Nissl bodies in mouse brain under low pressure and hypoxic environments.Although studies have shown that hUC-MSCs have broad application prospects in the treatment of HACE, they still face challenges such as cell source, transplantation methods and long-term effects. These issues need to be further explored.By reviewing the current research progress of hUC-MSCs in HACE, this article aims to provide reference and guidance for future clinical research to promote further development in this field.
