Abstract:
Simultaneous development of carcinoma in the endometrium and ovary is a rare but well recognized phenomenon. Clinical impact of correctly diagnosing these tumors versus metastatic is significant and has important therapeutic and prognostic implications. Clinicopathologic criteria have been used to distinguish synchronous tumors from metastatic disease. In some cases, it may be difficult, if not impossible, to distinguish between metastatic and independent malignancy because the tumors may share features of both categories. Treatment strategies are, therefore, individualized and formulated. Such cases remain to be a diagnostic and therapeutic challenge. (Author)
