Abstract:
Darier disease is a genodermatosis with an autosoal dominant mutation in the ATP2A2 gene on chromosome 12q23-24. Several investigators have reported co-segregation of Darier disease with various psychiatric disorders. We are reporting a case of a 51-year-old woman with schizophrenia who presented with pruritic, pupular skin lesions of one year duration. Skin biopsy showed suprabasal clefts with acantholytic, dyskeratotic cells in the spinous and granular zones. The patient was treated with retinoic acid 0.1% cream clobetasol 0.05% cream with significant clearing of lesions on her neck and back after two weeks. It is emphasized that Darier disease is a chronic disease with no spontaneous remission.
