Sleep quality among lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, intersex, queer and other sexual minority (lgbtiq+) people in Vietnam

Abstract:
Objectives: This study aimed to describe the sleep quality among lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, intersex, queer, and other sexual minority (LGBTIQ+) people in Vietnam and several associated factors.
Methods: This is a cross-sectional study design. We utilized anonymous web-based survey to collect data. A total of 274 LGBTIQ+ individuals voluntarily participated in an anonymous web-based survey. The Pittsburgh Sleep Quality Index (PSQI) was used to measure the sleep quality in this study. Logistic regression was estimated to identify the associated factors.
Results: The prevalence of poor sleep quality was 91.6% among LGBTIQ+ people in Vietnam. Behaviors mentioned in the study include diet, use of electronic devices, sexual behaviors, condom use, and anxiety disorders. Research has shown that LGBTIQ+ people had anxiety disorders (95% CI: 1.9 - 11.9) and cisgender men (95% CI: 1.3 - 25.3) had a statistical impact on sleep quality with p < 0.05.
Conclusion: Our study indicated the high prevalence of poor sleep quality among LGBTIQ+ people in Vietnam. Findings highlighted the need for research and tailored interventions for specific sub-groups within the LGBTIQ+ community, which are crucial to exploring hidden risk factors and supporting the LGBTIQ+ community to improve sleep quality, then bettering their quality of life.
