Abstract:
Objective To investigate the antibody levels against measles, rubella, and mumps in infants aged 0-8 months in Shanghai, and construct a decay trend model, and to provide evidence for formulating prevention and control strategies. Methods Serum samples were collected from infants aged 0 - 8 months at a children's medical center in Shanghai. Enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA) was used to measure the IgG antibody levels against measles, rubella, and mumps. The antibody positive rates and antibody geometric mean concentration (GMC) in different age groups were analyzed. Results A total of 922 serum samples were collected. The GMC and positive rates for measles, rubella, and mumps antibodies were 2.11 (127.35 IU·L-1) and 39.70%; 0.89 (7.89 IU·mL-1) and 28.85%; and 1.89 (77.80 U·mL-1) and 41.43%, respectively. There were statistically significant differences in antibody levels and positive rates across different age groups. With the highest levels observed at 0 months, a rapid decline began at 3 months, reaching the lowest levels by 7 months. After the first dose of the MMR vaccine at 8 months, antibody levels increased. A negative correlation was observed between age and GMC for measles, rubella, and mumps antibodies, showing a linear decay trend. The models were as follows: Ŷmeasles = −0.151X + 2.602 (R2=0.91,P<0.001); Ŷrubella = −0.126X + 1.319(R2=0.98,P<0.001); Ŷmumps = −0.122X + 2.327 (R2=0.94,P<0.001). Conclusion The antibody levels for measles, rubella, and mumps in infants decline linearly with increasing age in months. The antibody levels in infants before 8 months of age primarily depend on maternal antibodies. It is recommended that MMR vaccination be promoted for women of childbearing age to enhance early passive immunity protection in infants.
