Abstract:
Objective To explore the clinical treatment and prognosis of bilateral testicular torsion in neonates, to enable early detection and treatment, thereby preserving the testicles whenever possible. Methods A retrospective analysis was conducted on the clinical data of 2 neonates with bilateral testicular torsion treated in our hospital, and relevant literature was reviewed. Results Patient 1, a 1-day-old newborn, presented with redness and swelling of bilateral scrotum for 11 hours. The diagnosis was partial bilateral testicular torsion. The patient underwent bilateral testicular detorsion and fixation. Postoperative color Doppler ultrasound confirmed good testicular blood supply. Patient 2, a 2-day-old newborn, presented with purple-black discoloration of bilateral scrotum for 10 hours. The diagnosis was bilateral testicular torsion and necrosis. The patient underwent bilateral orchiectomy. Conclusion Due to the unobvious clinical symptoms of testicular torsion in neonates and the possibility of prenatal torsion, the testicular salvage rate is low. It is necessary to complete color Doppler ultrasound examination as soon as possible. Once the condition is highly suspected or clearly diagnosed, timely surgical exploration should be carried out to save the testicle as much as possible.
