Pathway Analysis of the Effects of Nursing Work Environment, Nursing Informatics Competency, and Missed Nursing Care on the Quality of Nursing Services

Abstract:
Purpose:The purpose of this study was to identify the impact of the nursing work environment, nursing informatics competency, and missed nursing care on the quality of nursing services.
Methods:This was a path analysis study that constructed a hypothetical path model for the variables and examined the model's goodness of fit and effects. Data were collected from nurses who consented to participate in the study between May 19 and June 5, 2025.
Results:Analysis of the research model revealed that nursing informatics competency had a direct effect on missed nursing care (β=-.26, p=.001), while the nursing work environment did not have a significant impact on missed nursing care. The nursing work environment showed a direct effect (β=.17, p=.005) and a total effect (β=.20, p=.003) on the quality of nursing services. Nursing informatics competency had a direct effect (β=.39, p=.001), an indirect effect (β=.06, p<.001), and a total effect (β=.44, p=.001) on the quality of nursing services. Missed nursing care showed a direct effect (β=-.22, p=.001) on the quality of nursing services. The explanatory power of the variables for the quality of nursing services was 32.4% in total.
Conclusion:This study identified specific pathways through which nursing work environment, nursing informatics competency, and missed nursing care influence the quality of nursing services, and demonstrated that missed nursing care plays a partial mediating role between nursing informatics competency and the quality of nursing services.
