Graves’ Disease Manifesting Pancytopenia

Abstract:
A 51-year-old male presented to the emergency department with a lab result of pancytopenia performed at outside hospital. He was admitted in outside hospital for rehabilitation of multiple trauma from traffic accident.During hospitalization, his serum hemoglobin level decreased to 7.0 g/dL, to evaluate for cause of acute anemia he was transferred to our emermergency department. There was no sign of current bleeding, and no evidence of Vitamin and iron deficiency or peripheral hemolysis. We performed thyroid function test and revealed thyrotoxicosis, and it was considered to be Graves’ disease. High dose of PTU was administered and thyroid function was subsequently getting to euthyroid state, with resolving of pancytopenia.
