Effects of the ‘N ursing Records Room of Error’ Program on Nursing Students’ Confidence in Nursing Records, Critical Thinking Disposition, and N urse records Knowledge

Abstract:
Purpose:: Nursing record is a critical competency that directly impacts nurses’ professionalism and patient safety, requiring accuracy and objectivity. This study aimed to evaluate the effects of the “Nurse records Room of Error (ROE)” program, developed to enhance nursing students’ confidence in nursing record, critical thinking disposition, and nursing records knowledge. The study also seeks to propose an effective educational strategy to strengthen practical competencies in nursing education.
Methods:: A one-group pretest-posttest design was employed in this study. The Nurse records ROE program was implemented for 54 second-year nursing students at a university in City D. The program consisted of theoretical lectures and simulation activities. Confidence in nursing record (VAS), critical thinking disposition, and nursing records knowledge were assessed before and after the program. Data were analyzed using paired t-tests.
Results:: After implementing the Nurse records ROE program, nursing students’ confidence in record significantly improved from 3.61±1.88 to 5.25±1.50 (t=-5.415, p <.001), critical thinking disposition increased from 94.43±9.39 to 104.09±15.71 (t=-4.012, p <.001), and nursing records knowledge rose from 53.17±5.22 to 57.06±3.60 (t=-5.095, p <.001).
Conclusion:: The Nurse records ROE program was found to be an effective educational tool for improving nursing students’ record competencies. This program underscores the necessity of simulation-based learning in nursing education, offering students opportunities to enhance practical skills in a safe environment, ultimately contributing to patient safety and quality of care. Future studies should include controlled designs and evaluate the program’s applicability in diverse clinical settings.
