- Abstract: The medial collateral ligament (MCL) is a primary static stabilizer of the medial knee, providing resistance against valgus stress, rotation, and anterior displacement of the tibia. MCL injuries are the most common knee ligament injuries. Most cases can be managed conservatively because the MCL has high healing potential. Nevertheless, surgical intervention may be required in severe injury with instability or concurrent damage to other knee structures. Depending on the severity of the injury and the timing of surgery, surgical options such as simple repair or various reconstruction techniques may be considered. MCL injuries can occur with injuries to the cruciate ligaments or other knee structures. Hence, a thorough evaluation and appropriate treatment are crucial. This review presents the various treatment options for MCL injuries.
