Abstract:
Conservative treatment often yields favorable outcomes in elderly patients with minimally displaced acetabular fractures. On the other hand, several reports in the international literature have described cases of early femoral head destruction following an acetabular fracture, and have emphasized the need to distinguish these from avascular necrosis or rapidly progressive osteoarthritis on a pathological basis. This paper describes two elderly patients (92 and 83 years old) who experienced accelerated femoral head destruction under non-surgical treatment for acetabular fractures.
