Abstract:
The recent advances in ultrasound devices and techniques have allowed many orthopedic surgeons to perform a range of procedures safely and accurately under ultrasound guidance to manage pain caused by musculoskeletal diseases and trauma. In the foot and ankle regions, clinicians can locate the target structures with ultrasound relatively easily if they are familiar with the anatomical positions of the bones, ligaments, and tendons because there is relatively little soft tissue. Therefore, ultrasound-guided injections in the foot and ankle areas are now commonly performed, and patients can expect long-term pain relief through these injection treatments. This review explores ultrasound-guided injection treatments commonly applied to foot and ankle lesions.
