Atypical Presentation of Oral Palatal Ulceration: A Case Report

Abstract:
Recurrent aphthous stomatitis (RAS) typically presents as painful ulcers on non-keratinized oral mucosa. We present a rare case of major RAS in a 14-year-old female with atypical features: painless ulcers confined to the hard palate, varying in shape, and recurring along the palatal midline for 5 months. Clinical, laboratory, and radiographic evaluations showed no abnormal findings, and other potential causes including viral infections, autoimmune diseases, inflammatory diseases, nutritional deficiencies were excluded. The patient was diagnosed with major RAS, which was likely triggered by local trauma. This case highlights the diagnostic challenges posed by atypical presentations and emphasizes the importance of systematic differential diagnosis and careful clinical evaluation.
