Abstract:
Guided by the concept of "onset due to compounding factors" from Inner Canon of Yellow Emperor (《黄帝内经》), it is believed that the basic pathogenesis of radiation-induced intestinal injury is the depletion of the root and the invasion of external pathogenic fire and heat toxin. The deficiency induced by pre-existing pathogen has not been resolved, and the external invasion of a new pathogen, characterized by fire and heat toxin, has further aggravated the condition, leading to radiation-induced intestinal injury due to the interaction of internal and external factors. The treatment should focus on reinforcing healthy qi and expelling pathogen, performingtreatment with both attack and supplementation. The experience-based prescription Huchang Kangfu Decoction (护肠抗辐汤) should be used as the main formula, with treatment differentiated according to stages. During the acute stage, adjustments on medicinals should be made to supplement deficiency, clear heat, resolve toxin, and consolidate the intestines. During the chronic stage, medicinals that can warm the kidneys, tonify the spleen, nourish the blood, and soften the liver should be modified according to symptoms. Above methods provide a treatment approach for radiation-induced intestinal injury.
