Abstract:
Dissociative identity disorder (DID), formerly known as multiple personality disorder, is often misdiagnosed due to its diverse and variable symptoms. The patient in this case is a 16-year-old male adolescent with DID featuring seven distinct personality traits. He has been experiencing dissociation from multiple personalities for seven years and sought treatment after refusing to attend school. He had previously been diagnosed with other mental disorders. After treatment, the patient's mood gradually stabilized. Within 3 months after discharge, the patients could go to school and live normally. This report aims to raise psychiatrists′ awareness of this condition and improve diagnostic accuracy. Through a combination of psychotherapy and pharmacotherapy and a stable therapeutic relationship, the patient′s symptoms can be controlled, and his social functioning can be gradually restored.
