Abstract:
Because of rapid and remarkable effects, targeted anti-rheumatic drugs have revolutionarily changed the treatment regimens of inflammatory arthritides such as rheumatoid arthritis(RA). However, both doctors and patients are concerned about their short-term and long-term adverse effects of cancer occurrence or recurrence, because the targeted drugs can interfere with the immune system. By analyzing the evidence-based medical data, this essay summarized cancer risk of rheumatic diseases including RA, as well as cancer risk of different class of biologics and JAK inhibitors. Finally, based on the "2024 EULAR points to consider on the initiation of targeted therapies in patients with inflammatory arthritis and a history of cancer", practical recommendations were outlined to manage such patients in clinical practice.
