Abstract: Sepsis is defined as a severe organ dysfunction caused by an imbalanced immune response to infection, making it a common life-threatening critical condition in clinical practice. With the rapid advancement of precision and personalized medicine, along with a deeper understanding of the pathophysiology of sepsis, immune dysfunction has increasingly been recognized as a major factor contributing to poor outcomes in sepsis patients. This article discusses the mechanisms of immune dysfunction, methods of immune monitoring, and patient stratification in sepsis, highlighting the importance of achieving immune balance in sepsis treatment. It aims to explore new strategies for immunotherapy in sepsis.
