Mediating effect of adversity quotient between practice environment and professional identity on oncology nurses

Abstract:
Objective To explore the mediating effect of adversity quotient between professional identity and practice environment on the oncology nurses.Methods Using the convenience sampling method,301 nurses were selected from the Department of Oncology of our hospital to participate the study between June and December 2023.A general information questionnaire,the nurse practice environment assessment scale,nurse professional identity scale,and adversity quotient scale were used in the survey.Pearson correlation was used to analyse the correlation between practice environment,adversity quotient and occupational identity of oncology nurses.AMOS 21.0 was used to establish the model of structural equation,and Bootstrap confidence interval evaluation method was used to verify the model of mediation effect.Results A total of 262 nurses completed the study.The mean score of the nursing practice environment assessment scale was 78.21±19.29,and that was 113.29±21.29 of the nurse professional identity scale and 137.71±21.98 of the nurse adversity quotient scale.A positive correlation was found between the environment of nursing practice and adversity quotient(r=0.214,P<0.01),and professional identity(r=0.566,P<0.01)among the oncology nurses.A postive correlation was found between adversity quotient and professional identity(r=0.399,P<0.01).The value of mediation effect of adversity quotient between the environment of nursing practice and professional identity was 0.060(P<0.01),accounting for 10.88%of the total effect.Conclusion The environment of nursing practice is moderate in the Department of Oncology,with a high adversity quotient and a moderate professional identity.Where,adversity quotient has a mediating role between the environment of nursing practice and professional identity.Nursing managers should focus on developing the adversity quotient to enhance the professional identity among the oncology nurses.
