Abstract:
Objective:To explore the influencing factors of body image in young breast cancer patients after mastectomy from the perspective of self-objectification.Methods:A total of 359 female breast cancer patients who underwent mastectomy at Taizhou Hospital of Zhejiang Province between January 2022 and May 2024 were selected using convenience sampling. Data were collected using a general information questionnaire, the Body Image Self-Rating Questionnaire for Breast Cancer patients (BISQ-BC) , the Body Surveillance Subscale (TBSS) , the Physical Appearance Comparison Scale (PACS) , and the Social Appearance Anxiety Scale (SAAS) .Results:A total of 359 questionnaires were distributed, and 338 valid questionnaires were collected, with an effective response rate of 94.15%. The BISQ-BC score among the 338 participants was (110.88±7.03) , the TBSS score was (39.78±4.58) , the Physical Appearance Comparison Scale score was (14.58±2.52) , and the SAAS score was (65.10±10.66) . Mediation analysis revealed a significant chained mediating effect of physical appearance comparison and social appearance anxiety between body surveillance and body image. The total indirect effect accounted for 44.48% of the total effect. The direct effect of body surveillance on body image was 0.367, accounting for 55.52% of the total effect. Conclusions:The body image status of young breast cancer patients after mastectomy is unsatisfactory. Patients' body surveillance not only directly affects their body image, but also indirectly influences it through physical appearance comparison and social appearance anxiety.
