Abstract:
Objective:To systematically evaluate the qualitative research on the experience of healthcare professionals in neonatal palliative care (NPC) , so as to provide a basis for the development of NPC.Methods:Qualitative and mixed studies on healthcare professionals' experiences of NPC were searched in the Cochrane Library, Embase, PubMed, Web of Science, CINAHL, China National Knowledge Infrastructure, WanFang Data, VIP, and China Biology Medicine disc by computer. The search period was from the establishment of the database to January 31, 2024. Literature quality was evaluated using the quality evaluation criteria for qualitative research of the Australia Joanna Briggs Institute Evidence-Based Health Care Center. Meta-synthesis method was used to integrate the results. Results:A total of 11 articles were included to distill 76 findings, which were ultimately grouped into seven categories and synthesized into three integrative results of significant negative experiences, coping with multiple challenges, learning and growing through practice, and expecting support from multiple sources. Conclusions:Healthcare professionals have a complex experience of NPC, are physically and mentally stressed, and crave a variety of supports. It is recommended to emphasize the experience and needs of healthcare professionals implementing NPC, and to build a multifaceted support system so as to improve the quality of NPC services.
