Abstract:
Restricted mouth opening following maxillofacial injury is an unavoidable issue in forensic clinical identification.At present,there is no standardized method for assessing the degree of restricted mouth opening in the existing criteria and guidelines for injury severity and disability grading,nor is there a standardized inspection or testing procedure in forensic clinical practice.These shortcomings result in insufficient objectivity in forensic evaluations.Based on the etiological factors of restricted mouth opening,this article provides standardized guidance for the identification process and highlights differential diagnoses that need to be considered,aiming to promote greater scientific rigor,standardization,and operability in forensic assessments of restricted mouth opening.
