Abstract: Periodontitis is a common chronic infectious disease resulting from the interaction between oral microorganisms and the host's immune system.The immune system plays a dual role in regulating inflammation.Macrophages,as a component of innate immu-nity,play a crucial role in both the onset and resolution of periodontitis.This article reviews the role of macrophages in periodontitis and the recent advances in targeting macrophages for the treatment of periodontitis.
