Abstract:
Microglia are in the front line to defend against pathogen invasion. They constantly monitor the brain environ-ment and participate in the process of synaptic pruning, cell debris and metabolite clearance through phagocytosis. At the same time, microglia are also sensitive for changes in the internal and external environment of the central nervous system.Pathological conditions or other disruptions of central nervous system homeostasis, such as improper diet and stress, can cause functional re-sponse of resting microglia.Microglia require a lot of energy to exert their function.Saccharide and lipids are important energy substrates, and the changes of their metabolisms also affect the function of microglia. In this paper, the glycolipid metabolism and the immune function of microglia will be discussed.
