Depression status and related influential factors among naval commissioned officers and sailors

Abstract:
Objective To investigate the depression status of naval commissioned officers and sailors,and its association with such related factors as exercise,training injury and alcohol consumption.Methods A questionnaire survey was conducted in 1 435 naval personnel by using the self-designed general condition questionnaire and the self-designed epidemiologic depression scale questionnaire.SPSS18.0 software was used to analyze the data obtained.Results Total incidence of depression among 1 435 naval personnel was 19.8% (284/1 435).The incidence of depression was correlated with exercise,training injury and alcohol consumption.Total depression scores of naval personnel with more exercise were much lower than those with less exercise,and the total depression scores of naval personnel with alcohol consumption were higher than those without alcohol consumption,and the total depression scores of naval personnel with training injury were higher than those without training injury.Conclusions Close attention should be paid to the status of depression among naval personnel and depression was significantly correlated with the amount of exercise,training injury and alcohol consumption.
