Abstract:
Objective To explore effects and mechanism of hyperbaric oxygen (HBO) on capillary proliferation of random skin flaps in rabbits. Methods Random skin flap models were developed on the back of rabbits and HBO was administered to rabbits in the HBO group. Capillary density and contents of VEGF, CX43 were observed on the 3rd day and the 7th day respectively. Results Capillary density of the animals in the HBO group were higher than those in the control group on the 3rd day (P<0.05) and the 7th day (P<0.01) respectively. The content of VEGF in the HBO group was higher than that in the control group on the 3rd day and the 7th day (P<0.05). The contents of CX43 in the HBO group were higher than that in the control group on 3rd day (P<0.01) and the 7th day (P<0.05) respectively. Conclusions One of the mechanisms of HBO might be that higher expression of VEGF and CX43 promoted capillary proliferation in random skin flaps.
