Abstract:
Objective To explore the association between transition of social environment and mental disorders through comparing the prevalence of mental disorders among ecological migrants, local residents and original residents;and to provide reference for better understanding of mechanisms of mental disorders. Methods The data abstracted from the epidemiological survey of mental disorders in Ningxia Autonomous Region was analyzed according to the principle of immigration epidemiology design. The Composite International Diagnostic Interview was used to diagnose mental disorder depend on the criteria of ICD-10,and the prevalence of anxiety disorders, mood disorders and substance use disorders was calculated separately.Logistic regression model was used to control the confounding factors. Results (1) There were significant differences in gender, ethnicity, marital status, educational level and age among ecological migrants, local residents and original residents(P<0.01).(2)A total of 264 (15.30%) participants met the diagnostic criteria for any mental disorders in migrants,of them 205 (11.88%) were anxiety disorders,48(2.78%) were mood disorders and 11 (0.64%) were substance use disorders.Logistic regression model revealed that the original residents more likely had mental disorders than ecological migrants (OR=1.29,95%CI:1.07-1.56,x2=7.13,P=0.008),meanwhile,local residents had a lower risk of mental disorders than ecological migrants (OR=0.69,95% CI:0.56-0.85,x2=12.63,P=0.001) under controlling the variables gender, ethnic, marital status, educational level and age. Conclusion The ecological migrants had lower prevalence of mental disorders than original residents, indicate that ecological migration project in Ningxia Autonomous Region did not increase the burden of mental disorders in the ecological migrants, however, prospective studies are needed to confirm the conclusions in future.
