Abstract:
Objective To explore the effects of accessory hyperbaric oxygen ( HBO) therapy on pain, serum 5 serotonin (5-HT) and P substance (PS) in the patients with calcaneal fractures. Methods Fifty-four patients with Sanders II, III and IV calcaneal fractures hospitalized from May 2016 to May 2018 were enrolled for the study, and they were randomly divided into the control group and the observation group, each consisting of 27 patients. The control group received routine treatment in accordance with the practice during perioperative period after calcaneal fracture, while the observation group was given HBO treatment in addition to the treatment received by the control group. Visual analogue scores ( VAS) at different time points before and after surgery, serum 5-HT and PS levels, rate of complication during perioperative period and SF-36 scores 3 and 6 months after surgery and AOFAS were compared between the patients of the 2 groups. Results The visual analogue scores after surgery were significantly higher than those before surgery for the patients of the 2 groups, however, the scores 5 and 7 days after surgery obviously decreased, and those of the observation group were lower than those of the control group. Statistical significance could be noted when comparisons were made between the 2 groups (P<0. 05). The serum 5-HT and PS levels 3 days after surgery all elevated significantly in the patients of the 2 groups, and the serum 5-HT and PS levels 5 and 7 days after surgery in the observation group were obviously lower than those of the control group(P<0. 05). AOFAS However, the scores of the above indicators 6 months after surgery in the observation group were significantly higher than those of the control group, with statistical significance(P<0. 05). The rate of complications in the observation group (11. 1%)was obviously lower than that of the control group(40. 7%), also with statistical significance(P <0. 01). Conclusion Accessory HBO therapy could effectively reduce serum 5-ht and PS levels in the patients with calcaneal fractures, alleviate postoperative pain and lower the rate of complications after surgery.
