Abstract:
Objective To investigate the mental health status, influential factors and mediating variables among the commissioned and non-commissioned personnel in a certain coast guard district. Methods An investigation was made among 539 commissioned and non-commissioned personnel by Psychological Health Inventory (PHI),Eysenck Personality Questionnaire (EPQ),Automatic Thinking Questionnaire (ATQ) and a self-designed general annoyance questionnaire, and analysis of influential factors was performed by Structural Equation Modeling (SEM).Results The personality factor of the military personnel in a certain coast guard district could by no means induce mental symptoms directly(path coefficient =0.058) (P =0.473).Mental symptoms could only be induced by general annoyance, such as work annoyance, life annoyance, interpersonal relationship annoyance,as well as by the mediating effects of negative automatic thinking (path coefficient =-0.395,-0.632) (P < 0.001).General annoyance could directly result in mental symptoms (path coefficient =-0.204)(P < 0.001) and could induce mental symptoms as well through the mediating effects of negative automatic thinking(path coefficient =-0.204) (P < 0.001).Conclusion Negative automatic thinking was a mediating variable between personality and mental symptoms induced by general annoyance.
