Clinical effect of hyperbaric oxygen combined with large dose vitamin C in the treatment of carbon monoxide poisoning

Abstract:
Objective To explore the clinical effects of hyperbaric oxygen (HBO) combined with large dose vitamin C in the treatment of acute carbon monoxide poisoning (ACOP).Methods Eighty cases of ACOP treated in the Affiliated Hospital of Chuanbei Medical College from January 2016 to January 2018 were analyzed retrospectively.In accordance with different treatment methods,the patients were divided into the control group and the observation group,each consisting of 40.The control group received HBO therapy,on the basis of routine treatment,while the observation group was given large dose of vitamin C in addition to the treatment received by the control group.Ten days after treatment,evaluations were made on the clinical efficacy in the patients of the 2 groups.Levels of super-oxide dismutase (SOD),catalase (CAT) and lipid peroxide (LPO)were detected both before and after treatment in all the patients of the 2 groups,and changes in cTnI,CK and CK-MB were detected by ELISA and enzyme velocity method.Hospitalization days were also evaluated before discharge.Results Ten days after treatment,the therapeutic effect of the observation group (97.5%)was obviously higher than that of the simple HBO group (82.5%),and statistical significance could be seen when comparisons were made between them (P < 0.05).The serum levels of cTnI,CK and CK-MB in the two groups were all lower than those before treatment,furthermore,after treatment,the levels of cTnI and CK in the observation group were lower than those of the control group,also with statistical significance (P < 0.05).After treatment,the serum levels of LPO,SOD and CAT in the patients of the 2 groups were also significantly lower than those before treatment.The levels of LPO,SOD and CAT in the patients of the observation group were also much lower than those of the control group (P <0.01),and the length of hospital stay for the patients of the observation group was obviously shorter than that of the control group (P < 0.05).Conclusion HBO combined with large dose vitamin C could enhance clinical efficacy in the treatment of ACOP,help to improve myocardial injury,reduce the length of HBO treatment and shorten hospitalization stay.For this reason,it was worth further clinical popularization.
