Clinical observation on the effects of comprehensive hyperbaric oxygen therapy in the treatment of sudden deafness

Abstract:
Objective To observe the clinical effects of comprehensive hyperbaric oxygen (HBO) therapy in the treatment of sudden deafness.Methods Ninety-eight patients (100 ears) hospitalized in the Department of Otorhinolaryngology,Hangzhou Red Cross Hospital from July 2015 to July 2017 were enrolled as research objects.All the patients were randomly divided into the HBO group and the control group,each consisting of 50 ears.Then,the groups were further divided into 3 subgroups:the low frequency descent group,the high frequency descent/fiat descent group and the full deafness group,by depending on the frequency and intensity of hearing loss.The control group was treated with nerve growth factor (NGF),Ginkgo biloba extract,Breviscapine needle and hormone,while the experiment group was supplemented with HBO in addition to the treatment received by the control group.After 3 courses of treatment,clinical effects and amplitude improvement in the impaired hearing frequency were compared between the 2 groups.Results Total effective rate of the experiment group was 94％,which was significantly higher than that of the control group (78％),with statistical significance(P ＜ 0.05).Cure rate of the experimental group was 34％,which was higher than that of the control group (16％),also with statistical significance (P ＜ 0.05).Total effective rate of the experimental group with flat descent and full deafness was 96％,which was also superior to that of the control group (73％),and statistical significance could be seen when comparisons were made between the groups (P ＜0.05).Conclusions HBO combined with NGF and other drugs could produce better efficacy,as compared with simple drug therapy.For this reason,it was worth further clinical extension.
