Effect of early treatment and knowledge education on the prognosis of the patients with corneal foreign body in marine fishermen

Abstract:
Objective To investigate the effect of early treatment and knowledge education on the prognosis of the patients with corneal foreign body in the marine fishermen .Methods Retrospective analysis was made on the 3146 marine fishermen with corneal foreign body (3652 eyes) who sought medical care in Rongcheng Second People 's Hospital from December 2013 to December 2016.In according with whether or not they had received pre-occupational knowledge education and skill training , the subjects were divided into the observation group (1680 cases, 1842 eyes) and the control group (1466 cases, 1810 eyes).Features of disease classification, treatment time and effects on visual acuity were observed and analyzed , then, prevention and treatment strategies were made accordingly .Results In the observation group, there were 991 patients who sought medical care in 24 hours after injury, accounting for 59.0 ％, while in the control group, there were 430 patients who sought medical care in 24 hours after injury, accounting for 29.3％.There was statistical significance, when comparisons were made between the 2 groups(P <0.01).The incidence of grade A foreign body in the observation group (49.0％) was significantly higher than that in the control group (26.0％), and the incidence of grade C and D foreign bodies in the observation group was significantly lower than those in the control group(P <0.05).The incidence of such complications as corneal stroma infiltration and corneal scar formation in the observation group was significantly lower than that in the control group ( P <0.01 ). Conclusions Knowledge education could effectively reduce the incidence of corneal foreign body in fishermen and reduce the effects of complications and prognosis on visual acuity .
