Abstract:
Objective:To examine the current status of the application of life review (LR) therapy among elderly residents in long-term care facilities. Methods:A comprehensive literature search was conducted in PubMed, Web of Science, Embase, Cochrane Library, China Biology Medicine disc, China National Knowledge Infrastructure, Wanfang Data, and VIP databases. The search covered articles on the application of life review therapy among elderly residents in long-term care facilities published from database inception to September 10, 2024.Results:A total of 16 articles were included. The key components of LR therapy interventions among elderly residents in long-term care facilities included childhood review, youth review, adulthood review, current life reflection, future outlook, and summarization and evaluation. The primary intervention formats were one-on-one interviews, group-based sessions, or a combination. Main evaluation indicators covered negative emotions, self-perception, life satisfaction, quality of life, personal functioning, psychological health, and caregiver stress. Conclusions:The intervention schemes of LR therapy exhibit diverse characteristics. Further research is warranted to refine and optimize intervention content, formats, and duration to assess better and enhance the effectiveness of LR therapy in long-term care settings.
