Abstract:
Objective To verify the efficiency and safety of continuous veno-venous hemofiltration (CVVHF) therapy by using the portable continuous blood purification machine (MCBPM) at sea. Methods Four adult hybrid dogs were administered with CVVHF at sea. Performance of MCBPM was olosely observed for continuous running, the error in the amount of liquid displacement an hour and the amount of waste liquid between the machine -displayed value and the real -time value. Vital signs, blood routine and renal function of the dogs were also monitored beth before and after treatment. Results (1) Vital sign of the dogs were stable during CVVHF therapy. No significant changes in blood routine and electrolyte were noted both before and after therapy. Serum creatinine and urea nitrogen decreased significantly when compared with those before therapy. (2) The error between the machine-displayed value and the real value in the quantity of displaced liquid was 0.28%, and the error for the waste liquid was 0.17%. The machine ran smoothly and alarms went off as set by the monitoring system. Conclusions CVVHF therapy could be successfully administered to the hybrid dogs by using MCBPM onboard the ship with safe and effective results.
