Abstract: Objective To investigate effects of 2 types of remote island environment on the vigilance and attention of garrison soldiers. Methods Attention distribution measuring instrument (EP-707A) and attention focus measuring instrument (EP-711) were used to measure total time of sound-light reaction, correct times of sound - light reaction, the time on targets as well as the time out of track of targets of garrison soldiers and the control group on the mainland. Results Effects of remote island environment on attention distribution of garrison soldiers were not significant in a considerably long time (within 5 years), while longer service (more than 5 years) on remote islands had certain effects on attention distribution of garrison soldiers. Remote island environment was not the most important factor affecting attention distribution of garrison soldiers. Conclusions Remote island environment only had certain effects on attention distribution of garrison soldiers with over 5 years of service.
