Abstract:
Objective To investigate the imagine manifestation, diagnosis, medical assessment and treatment of hepatic adenoma (HA) to enhance the understanding of the pilot with HA.Methods Based on relevant documents from 2003 to 2008, the analysis focused on the diagnosis and treatment of a patient who was diagnosed as HA in an annual physical examination. Results A patient was found solid occupying lesions at right lobe of liver in October of 2003. He then was diagnosed as HA by B-mode ultrasonography and CT scan. Routine follow-up showed the tumor was increasing and he was operated based on the diagnosis of suspected hepatoma by enhancement CT scan in November of 2008. HA was finally determined by pathological detection. Afterwards he was re-checked by ultrasonography and qualified for flying according to the normal result. He had safely flied for 980 h and no any unwell was reported in 1 year follow-up. Conclusions HA is a rare benign disease of liver and seldom in clinical diagnosis, especially in pilots. It's so difficult to diagnose HA just by clinical symptom and non-invasive imaging manifestation due to its non-specificity and easy to be ignored and confused with other liver neoplasm. Thus it's important to enhance the understanding of hepatic focal disease, emphasis the pre-operation diagnosis and exert operating treatment.
