Abstract:
Biliary atresia is one of the most serious hepatobiliary system diseases in infants and young children.Hepatojejunostomy (also called Kasai surgery) is the main method for early treatment of biliary atresia.Although the surgical technology and perioperative management are maturing, many children after Kasai surgery will inevitably suffer various complications, such as cholangitis, portal hypertension, cholestasis, and growth and development disorders. Therefore, further follow-up and diagnosis and treatment by pediatricians are necessary. These complications can seriously affect the quality of life of children and their families, resulting in poor long-term results in most children, who may eventually need liver transplantation. In order to correctly understand and prevent these complications as early as possible and improve the quality of life and long-term survival rate of the patients, progress in the diagnosis and treatment of complications after Kasai surgery for biliary atresia was reviewed in this article.
